What is Between Meals?

Between Meals is a chance for me to share the story behind the stories, to dive deeper than word counts and editorial budgets often allow, and take tangents that are the food equivalent of what some would term “a bit inside baseball“. It’s what I’m thinking about, things I’ve seen, heard, and read. And yes sometimes the meals themselves.

I’ve been writing about food, drink and travel for over a decade in the UK and Australia. I've cast a critical eye over restaurants across Australia and the UK for delicious. (as their WA critic), The Weekend Australian Magazine’s Hot 50 Restaurants, Good Food Guide (national), WA Good Food Guide, The West Australian, Time Out and View London.

I’ve written features for delicious., The Guardian, Nat Geo Traveller, The Australian, Gourmet Traveller WINE, Conde Nast Traveller, The Age, and more. Assignments have taken me from my home in the Margaret River region of Western Australia to seasonal bird culls on Flinders Island in the Bass Strait , organic farms in Brazil, behind the scenes of airline catering in Singapore, unexpected tea plantations in Cornwall, off grid wineries in the borderlands of Arizona, and award winning barbecue restaurants in rural Arkansas.

While I love to write for the mastheads above there’s a great sense of freedom in writing Between Meals, whether it’s a short piece on a dish, an ingredient, or a dining experience; a long-read interview; or simply what I’ve been listening to or watching. I hope as a regular reader you’ll enjoy coming along for the ride as Between Meals develops.
